Important! If Grant items/subscriptions/etc. will be modifying or adding to the curriculum, you must consult with your department head or curriculum coordinator.
Members are eligible to submit and win one grant per school year.
All members from all units are eligible to apply for MEA grants by completing this simple application. An accepted application will be entered in the pool of applicants which will be randomly drawn at quarterly Executive Board meetings: November, January, March, May.
In order to be eligible, the items or services in the grants must be directly impacting students’ education. The grant funds can be disbursed either as reimbursements or with MEA as a purchaser. In order for reimbursement, proof of payment will need to be provided to the MEA. Applicants agree to sharing photos of grant-funded items in action with the MEA (if students are identifiable in the photos, please forward parent/guardian consent to the MEA for use)!
Can I submit a grant as team with other members?
Absolutely! For now, each member may submit one grant, so we would encourage each member of the team to submit the grant since all members are entitled to an entry. For example, if Kevin, Danielle, and Christine want to submit a grant to reimburse premium subscriptions to Kahoot, Gimkit, and Wordwall -- each of them should submit the same proposal. Keep in mind that we're accepting 1 application per member per year and 1 funded grant per year, so if any of them are drawn, the other matching (and already funded) grants would be removed from the applicant pool.
Is there a theme to the Grant? Does the item or subscription need to fall in line with some district or union goal?
NO. The purpose here is to help get educators what they need, and we trust our people with what that may be. If you're submitting something that is modifying or adding to the curriculum, please check in with your department head or coordinator or principal to get the thumbs up first.
Can I submit for new classroom equipment?
Potentially. The subcommittee developing this program, from all three levels (Amy Harris, Kevin Fender, Nancy Warn), with approval from the executive board, decided the grants must directly impact students' education. If you're looking to get reimbursed for a new teacher chair, that will not meet that requirement. However, if you'd like to purchase some materials to make calming jars or some of those bands that go across chair legs, the committee will view that as having a direct impact on students' education.
